Launching Little Sunshine Farmers in Tampines

On 26 April 2019, the children in Sunshine Kids kickstarted the SSDB party launch with their parents. The school was fortunate to have a fellow parent with green thumbs that could come down and share tips on gardening with both parents and students.

Let the planting begin! Everyone got busy planting both edible and non edible plants such as Pak Choy, tomato plant, cosmos etc.. Part of the SSDB project was also to incorporate the Centre’s core values on care and appreciation into the experience. The project aims to teach children to learn how to care for the environment and to recognize the importance value of plants. Therefore the seeds were planted into recycled marigold cartons and plastic bottles designed beautifully by both the K2 children and their parents. Everyone was encouraged to ‘adopt’ their plants and continue care back in their own homes as well. Through the process, the children come to appreciate the plants for the value that they could bring into our everyday lives such as when they help to provide us with food or beautify our environment.

Everyone enjoyed their experiences and ended the launch with smiling faces and seeds! The parents also continued to share with the school photos of plant growths brought back from the launch.
