Our Learning Journey Showcase!

To end the Start Small Dream Big Project this year, our school organized a culmination exhibition on 22 September 2023. We displayed our learning journey, dated from early this year, outside the different bays and prepared some activities for the children and parents to participate in. The children were encouraged to walk around the showcases and documentation boards to share with their parents what they have learnt and their learning experiences throughout the project. We thanked the parents for their active participation throughout the year, such as our collaboration during Visual Impairment Day and Take Home Kits.

We also invited the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) to our school and had their mascots, Victor and Victoria, to interact with the children and have photo-taking sessions with them. The children handed out the tools and message cards that they did with their parents, personally to Victor and Victoria, when the latter visited their classrooms. Victor and Victoria were thrilled and touched, as the mementos created by the parents and children were meaningful and sweet. They will be passing these items to the people who are visually handicapped to show the parents’ and children’s love and support for them. SAVH’s team set up a booth where they sold hand-made crafts that were done by the visually handicapped individuals. Parents came by, gave their support, and learned more about them and the association.

The entire journey of learning and guidance about people with disabilities is an important step towards promoting understanding and empathy. It helps create a more accepting and inclusive society.
