SSDB @ Faith Kindergarten – United we are ONE: Unity in Diversity through Clothing & Footwear.

Each culture has its own set of traditional clothing. Exploring the traditional fashion in our community is a great way to celebrate the unique characteristics of different cultures. After exploring the different prints and design of the traditional clothes and footwear, we designed our own Indian sandals with intricate patterns and created pieces of art with the Batik technique.

Batik is one of the signature art of the Malay culture. The older Malay ladies often have batik prints on their clothes. Batik is also part of the Singapore’s culture as even the female flight crew of Singapore Airlines are clad in elegant bati

Our Aesthetics & Creative Expression teacher, Ms Tang, demonstrating to us the art of Batik.

Our attempt at batik. .The Faith Kindy children did a simple version of batik by using wax crayons on cloth instead of hot liquid wax. We are all very proud of our vibrant batik pieces! You can bet we will be looking at the different traditional clothing with a new appreciation.
