The ECOstruction Project

Children’s learning about protecting the earth and their environment didn’t stop even during Covid Circuit Breaker period. Through our green initiative home based online teachings, children have learnt different ways to recycle different items like carton boxes, plastic bottles, and used papers into creative toys.

This made children look forward for their school coming in early June to press on with their battle to help fight climate change through recycling. On 18th of June, SSDB Project Year 2020 was officially launched. Children reviewed about Green Habits which are small ways that they can do to help fight climate change with their activity “Message in the Bottle”. They confidently identified which habits are good for the environment and which habits contribute to climate change.

During the launch, children learnt that PLASTIC POLLUTION is one of the top most contributing factors in our environment problems. Children learnt that aside from the fact that plastic production and transportation produced excessive carbon dioxide, plastic when exposed under the sun, emits Methane and Ethylene which are very harmful gases too. These refreshed children’s understanding about the serious effects of PLASTIC POLLUTION in our beloved earth.

After deepening their knowledge on climate change and plastic pollution, children were introduced to ECObrick: a plastic bottle packed with used plastic to a set density and can be used to produce various items, including furniture, garden walls and other structures.

Children were all excited to start their new mission as ECOWarriors and to learn more about ECObricking. The launch was capped off by renewing our pledge to make a change to fight climate change.
