Hand In Hand We Serve

Start Small Dream Big is one of the recommended activities that the child should participate in because it helps him/her to be involved in community service such as helping the elderly in our neighbourhood, and playing a part to clean the environment.

This is the second time that our school participated in Start Small Dream Big. This year we have decided to include the neighbourhood and the church in our project. Our theme for this year is “Hand In Hand We Serve”. All the children were engaged in our launching on the 6th April 2018. We did a dance exercise and a short video for the SSDB virtual launching.

Our Kindergarten collaborated with our church in the neighbourhood of Rowell Court for this project – Breakfast with Love, wherein the children would participate in giving breakfast and goodie bags to the elderly in our neighbourhood. Our parents donated some food items such as coffee, tea, cream crackers and other beverages.

Our teachers helped in making the paper bags for this project. To enhance the design of the paper bags, the K1s and K2s drew beautiful sceneries and simple pictures on them. They also wrote some words of encouragement like “Thank you and be happy”, while the pre-nursery and nursery children pasted some cut-out shapes and stickers on them.

The children were excited to be involved in packing the food items donated by their parents.

On the 19th May 2018, it was indeed a special Saturday morning for everyone involved. The parents were highly supportive of their children who were also performing in front of the elderly. The guest of honour, MP of Jalan Besar GRC, Ms Denise Phua was present too. The children also handed out goodie bags to the residents participating in this event. This project certainly helped our children to understand the spirit of giving and learnt that even in small things, we can create big impact in the neighbourhood, so that it is important for all of us to learn to Start Small but Dream Big!
